Ernest and Joyce met in church. General Motors had just transferred Joyce to Lansing, Michigan where a co-worker invited her to Sunday church service. She saw Ernest Walking up to the altar and spoke these words to herself. "I am going to marry that man."

After service there was a reception. I never thought I would see this man again, but he and I met at the cake table. I introduced myself and mentioned I was new to Lansing and was just transferred from Atlanta. I noticed he kept dropping things, so he offered to take me to lunch, I said, why don't you come have dinner with me. We exchanged numbers, I told him where I lived and he called and came to dinner.

We talked for hours, and this was in April 1993. We talked everyday for hours and in July he and I traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica and he proposed. We were married in November.
